That poor, poor girl.Well, she did ask for it.Got to admit I know almost nothing about Granblue Fantasy, but I'm really liking this so far. I'm curious though, outside of the ancient divine beast analogues is there anything that can actually put up a decent fight against Archer? The way the Black Knight managed to fend off his arrow barrage implies there might be combatants on his level, but I honestly don't know if she's a one off, one of several, or not nearly as powerful as the real apex combatants of this setting or not. Likewise since that was explicitly not Archer's best, I don't know how well she'd actually stand up against him.Don't get me wrong, being the strongest combatant dosn't mean you win everything.

Type Moon itself has many great examples of this, even when it discards scenarios where even if you win, you still lose. I'm not worried about a lack of tension. I'm just curious. I'm not worried about a lack of tension. I'm just curious. Hm.the Ten Eternals(Also referred to as the Ten Strongest in all the Skydoms) and the Dragon Knights of Feendrache might be able to give him a good brawl. Hell, Vane of the Dragon Knights is himself an excellent cook. (Try the cheesecake, it's to die for!)One of the Eternals, if I'm remembering right, even fights somewhat similarly to Archer.
Though I forget which one it was exactly. IIRC, he has a hobby of collecting swords. (So he'd be someone Archer can get quite a few new blades for his own collection from.). I'm just curious. Well there is the Eternals.
Someone like would quite easily match and even surpass Archer in melee. Range wise (Also called Tweyen) would match him, but she does have better eye sight. All the Eternals are some of the most powerful people in the world for a reason. There is also the Color Knights, but there kinda weaker than the Eternals except for some notable exceptions.Last but not least, there is someone who could easily roll over everyone listed here. Everyone calls her Uncle Cagliostro.
Hundreds of years ago before the great war between the Sky Dwellers and the Astrals, Cagliostro was a sickly boy. She was near death but through intense effort managed to create a new body for herself and transitioned MTF at the same time. She was the one who discovered and pioneered the development alchemy in her search for immortality.
She was so powerful the Astarals (essentially gods of this setting) approached her and offered her great power in exchange for obedience. Cagliostro declined and soundly trounced them. Overall I think she might be one of the most powerful humans in the entire setting beyond Grans dad.

Archer is powerful in this setting, no problem. But the thing is, apart from Black Knight, there weren't truly powerful people shown yet.
And yes, she can fight on Archer's level, and she's far from being one of the most powerful people around.Yodahara, for exemple, is your quintessential Yoda character: short as fuck, older than dirt, and he will grind you in said dirt due to pure skill. Think Sasaki's level of skill. Both the Eternals and the Luminary Knights were already cited as a group, but even some of the primals are just. How, for exemple, do you fight something that can change your memories? Or something that can literally rewrite time? So, yeah, while Archer is powerful for the start of the journey, he WILL get challenged. You know, all this talk of power levels has me thinking of how the other prominent Type-moon MC (Shiki, male or female, both would be also on the table) would do in setting. This of course leads me to think of maybe/maybe not writing a story with the opening line being something like, 'If it exists, humanity will at one point or another find a way to kill the ever loving fuck out of it.'
The whole story would be about how the human section of the multiverse is both simultaneously the most dangerous and safest place in existence and how for every universe Cthuhlu eats their are ten or so that would hold him up by his ankles and shake him for his lunch money. I think the most inresting person Archer could interact with is Zooey (Grand Order). In short she is the counter force of the skydom. But yet she is very different from the Fate counter force. She is actually putting effort into understanding the people of the world so she can better carry out her duty.
Makes me wonder just how well Archer will get along with Zooey. In the recent game chapters, the main crew members of the grand cypher have been binding themselves to primal beasts. If he gets along with Zooey well enough I can see that happening. Still lacking a PC to write properly, but luckily that should be resolved this week. In the meantime have this:'I give up,' Farrah whined in a miserable tone.
She was lying face first on the deck, her head full of quickly swelling bumps. Under her armor, there were more bruises than sane flesh. 'Everything hurts.
My whole world is pain. All that I ever knew has been replaced by agony.' 'Quit the melodrama, girl,' Archer scoffed, though internally he was impressed. Farrah lasted much longer than he expected. 'Being hit by a real sword hurts more.' 'The winner is Archer,' Gran declared with a dull tone.
He wasn't stranger to pushing himself during training, but that was seriously brutal.' Man, that was almost scary to watch,' Vyrn commented idly while Katalina applied healing magic to Farrah. 'Uncle Sword, I think that thing you have there is cursed for real.' Ironically enough, Vyrn was half-right. The true Torashinai has been a completely ordinary shinai, the true source of its reputation the crazy skills and behavior of its owner. But when it was recreated as part of the setting for the Holy Grail War, for some unexplainable reason the Moon Cell decided to consider those rumors true and modify the shinai to insert a true curse. Even Archer was surprised when he and his Master found Torashinai at the bottom of the First Lunar Sea.Still, compared to other cursed swords he kept in his Reality Marble it was a mostly harmless curse.
Perfect to have some fun with.' You think so? It never gave me troubles, but maybe it's just me. Yuisis,' He tossed the sword to her. 'Does it look cursed to you?' 'It does have an unusually intimidating aura,' She commented while raising her arm and catching the shinai by the handle.
Lowain, Tomoi and Elsam leaned forward with an intrigued look. The tip of Torashinai slammed into Lowain's forehead, sending him flying backward.' And, now that I think about it.' Yuisis slowly turned to face the stunned Tomoi and Elsam, an ominous look having fallen on her expression. 'I haven't confirmed if you three are worthy of being part of the Boss' crew yet. What a grave oversight. That should be rectified immediately.' 'We, like, have no idea what you're talking about!!'
The two Erune screamed while being chased around the deck by a bloodthirsty Yuisis, the knocked-out Lowain carried over their shoulders.' It's cursed,' Vyrn's tone was flat as a pancake.Archer shrugged. 'It may be a coincidence.' 'Stop right there!' Katalina, having finished with Farrah, used a hand chop to make the Erune girl let go of the sword.
'Yuisis, what has gotten into you all of a sudden?' The knight leaned down to pick up the fallen shinai, stood up and then slammed the weapon between Rackam's legs.' The helmsman whined in a high-pitched voice while falling face-first on the deck, hands holding his groin.' You know Rackam?' With a disturbing smile, Katalina began to rain down blows on the hapless man.

'The first time we met, the things you said about my piloting skills weren't very nice. Don't you think it's time for you to apologize?' 'It's cursed.' 'Holding a grudge is a perfectly human reaction.'
With a kick, Eugen sent Torashinai flying. It spun in the air a few times before landing right into Lyria's hands. There was a brief moment of silence, everyone holding their breath as they waited to see what would happen, and then the blue-haired girl turned to Gran with an angelic smile. A cloud covered the sun, casting a shadow over Lyria's eyes. At the same time a gust of wind colder than normal passed in front of her, making her breath visible. It wasn't much, but it was enough to turn Lyria's expression downright terrifying.
'Let's train together!' 'Even Lyria has fallen! Every man and Vyrn to himself!' The flying reptile ran back inside the ship, quickly followed by a spooked Io.' Lyria, you need to listen to me-!'
Gran caught the blade between his hands and pushed upward, pulling it out of the girl's grasp. 'And let go of this sword!' Zahlhamelina and Eugen raised the blunt end of their weapons, ready to do the necessary and knock out their Captain.
However, to the surprise of everyone nothing happened. Still completely calm, Gran looked up and down the shinai in his hands before scratching his head in confusion. 'UhI don't see anything wrong. It's just a wooden sword. What was that, then?' 'They say that suggestion is a powerful force.
How we expect an event to play out has a large role in how we experience it,' Archer mused while walking closer.' Uhm, what happened?' Lyria looked around in confusion, as if only now regaining awareness. Yuisis and Katalina were likewise confused.' Often in extreme ways,' He finished, a grin on his lips.Rackam muttered a few impolite words between each groan of pain.'
Nobody is hurt. Well, too badly, I mean. That's the most important thing,' Gran sighed before holding out Torashinai to Archer. You can have it back.' You can keep it; in case you want to train safely,' It was quite surprising that Gran was able to shrug off the shinai's curse, and Archer wanted to see what would happen if he kept using it.
'I can always create another copy. Furthermore, I prefer dual-wielding.' 'Those black and white swords, right?' 'Can I see them?' 'Sure,' He projected his favorite swords. 'The black one is Kanshou, and the white one is Bakuya.'
'They're beautiful,' Lyria commented with a smile. 'Even if they're weapons, it's like they give off a sense of peace.' 'That's because they were created without vanity,' Seeing the two's confused looks he elaborated. 'Most weapons are created with a purpose in mind. To defeat the enemy, to be better than other weapons, to accomplish great deeds those kinds of things.
Kanshou and Bakuya, on the other hand, were crafted more for the sake of crafting. In a way, you can compare them to a piece of artwork.' Gran smiled in wonder.
As he thought, Archer's weapons were much better than anything he had seen thus far. 'I'd bet there is an amazing story behind them.'
'Sorry to crush your hopes, but it's neither amazing nor happy,' Archer let the blades dissolve and crossed his arms. 'Once, in a distant land, the king ordered a famous blacksmith to forge him a great and powerful sword. The blacksmith tried many methods, but none of them resulted in a sword that fit such orders. While he was extremely frustrated and desperate his wife, upon seeing the situation, decided to gamble her own life.'
'She hurled herself into the furnace, and used her own life to create the metal,' Both Lyria and Gran paled, but Archer continued. 'The blacksmith, despite his grief, forged the two swords and handed only one to the king, while keeping the other one as a memento of his wife.' 'That's, that's too sad.' Lyria clenched her hands around the hem of her dress. 'Why did she do such a thing?'
'Because disobeying a king's orders at the time meant death. It was the only way for her to protect her husband,' With that said Archer left, intending to resume the cleaning of the kitchen.' That wasn't the whole story,' Katalina's voice reached him just before he could reach his destination.Glancing behind his back, he threw her a disinterested look. 'What gave me away?'
'Just a hunch. You just confirmed,' She grinned before her expression turned serious.
'Is that bad?' 'Just not something that kids should hear,' He looked away. He may be blunt to a fault, but even he had some lines he would not cross.
'The king eventually discovered the blacksmith's deception and had him killed. But the blacksmith predicted the king's reaction and hid the sword together with his newborn son. Years later, the son learned of what happened to his parents and sought revenge. At the same time, the king dreamed of a youth who desired to kill him and, in fear, placed a bounty on the youth's head. An assassin found the boy in anguish at his current situation and, moved by his story, suggested to the son to surrender both his head and the sword. The assassin himself would avenge the father in the boy's place. The boy accepted and committed suicide.'
Archer leaned against the wall, pleased to find out Katalina was listening with great attention.' The assassin severed the boy's head and brought it, along with the sword, to the overjoyed king. The king, however, was uncomfortable with the head staring at him and the assassin asked the king to have it boiled. He then tricked the king into looking closer at the cauldron, decapitated him and then did the same to himself. When all flesh was stripped and the heads reduced to simple skulls, none of the king's guards could recognize which head belonged to whom, so they decided to honor all three as kings and buried them in the same grave.'
Is a tragic tale,' Katalina sighed. 'About what?'
Archer shrugged before walking into the kitchen.
